Harvard Pilgrim Health Takes Over Maine's DirigoChoice
The state of Maine announced that non-profit health insurance company, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care will take over the DirigoChoice program. DirigoChoice was created in 2005 by Governor John Baldacci and state Legislature to provide health plan options for uninsured residents.
"We felt this was an opportunity for us to broaden our presence and participate in a way that would give the state the capacity to operate," said CEO and President of Harvard Pilgrim, Charles Baker.
DirigoChoice helps residents and business afford insurance in the private market with the assistance of government subsidies.
The insurance plans were previously administered Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Any policyholder currently with Anthem coverage will be able to choose whether they stay or go to Pilgrim. Whether beneficiares stay or move, their amount of government subsidies and their level of coverage will not change.
