Seniors Losing Interest in Medicare Prescription Benefit
Over half of seniors are either planning not to enroll in the Medicare Part D program or are still unsure whether they will, according to the findings of a recent poll conducted by Kaiser Family Foundation.
The controversial plan, created to provide seniors with a federally funded prescription drug benefit, has become less popular in the last six months. Today 45% of seniors view Part D unfavorably, compared to 23% with a favorable view. It’s quite a change from since last August, when seniors’ favorable and unfavorable opinion of the plan both held at 32%.
While 45% of seniors have either already enrolled or plan to do so, 29% now claim they do not intend to enroll. Most of the seniors who plan on turning down the drug benefit state they have found another program to help them cover their prescription costs.
At the time of the poll, another 23% of seniors remain uncertain whether they’ll pick up Plan D anytime soon.
