Medicare Enrollment Less Chaotic

When Medicare’s prescription drug program started last year in California, it came with hundreds of calls from confused beneficiaries and exhausted pharmacies. There was so much chaos that officials had to grant “emergency coverage” to many people who couldn’t get their plans.

This year things look to be much less hectic. Most Medicare beneficiaries and pharmacies are more familiar with the prescription drug programs and are able to plan ahead.

And to help beneficiaries, Medicare has an informational calling service. Callers can tell the service which prescription drugs they need, and they’re given a choice of 3 cost-effective plans.

To enroll in a drug plan, it’s better to do it sooner than later. The longer you wait, the more expensive coverage can be.

The open enrollment period started on November 15. During this period, eligible seniors can’t be turned down for coverage.

To make sure that you have enough coverage for the start of the new years, the Federal government is recommending enrolling in a plan by December 8.
