UPMC Health Plan Now Offering Low Cost Health Insurance For Kids

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) will now offer coverage for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). UPMC is the 8th insurance company to offer CHIP to help uninsured children in the state of Pennsylvania.

CHIP offers coverage for immunizations, well-baby care, hospitalizations, emergency care, prescriptions, diagnostic services, dental, vision, and preventive care for children. And the program offers coverage for these services free or at a low cost.

“Despite the many public and private programs available for health insurance, many Pennsylvania children remain uninsured. CHIP coverage… is a high-quality health insurance product that can help fill that gap,” said president of UPMC Health Plan and the UPMC Insurance Services Division, Diane Holder.

The problem of uninsured people — especially children — is getting more and more attention. Increasingly, health insurance companies and hospitals are offering free or low-cost services to people without insurance.
