What Are My Options When It Comes to Health Insurance?
The most cost effective health insurance you can buy is always going to be
through your employer. Group plans almost always cost you less and often feature
a broader range of coverage options. It’s even possible to find a health
plan that will consider you a "group" of one if you’re self-employed,
and thereby provide the benefits group coverage.
Getting Group Coverage
But, if you don't have access to a traditional employer-sponsored healthcare
plan, find out if you can take advantage of a group plan offered by your local
chamber of commerce or a professional organization you may qualify for.
If it turns out that you can't get a group plan anywhere, you can still purchase
an individual health policy. The rates will be higher and you will risk being
denied coverage if you have a pre-existing medical conditions.
Picking A Health Plan
Deciding on a health plan isn’t as easy as it used to be. Your options
will range from POS Plans to HMO’s and PPO’s to traditional Fee-for-Service
Plans, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all best health plan. There are
healthcare options that will be better suited than others to your family's
needs. Each category of health plan is a little different when it comes to
how much you’ll pay for it and how easy it will be for you to use it.
Make sure you look into each type of plan before you make your final health
insurance decision! |
