How Can I Find Out If My Health Insurance Is Portable?

Whenever you change jobs, you’ll always have the option to keep your group health insurance for up to eighteen months under the rules set out by COBRA (the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act).

That’s not to say that your COBRA benefits will be free. Even with COBRA Insurance, you’ll still have to pay insurance premiums; albeit at a rate that will be much lower than an individual health plan offering similar coverage.

NOTE: If you’re seeking COBRA health benefits, be sure to complete all of the forms your former employer’s Human Resources department sends you within sixty days of your last day. You’ll have to do so within sixty days or it’s possible that you could be denied your COBRA benefits.
