What's a Deductible?
Your deductible is a predetermined fee that you’ll be required to pay
before your health insurance carrier will be responsible for paying your benefits.
For the most part, deductibles work to help insurance companies keep the costs
of health insurance premiums down.
But, the cost of a deductible also works to ensure that you’ll be sure
that any health problem you have really needs medical attention before running
for the doctor.
For instance, if you have a health plan with a $1000.00 deductible, you’ll
have to pay the first $1000.00 of any medical expenses before your insurance
kicks in and begins to pay for your expenses. Of course, only those expenses
you’re covered for will apply towards your deductible.
Meaning; if you pay $150.00 to visit your chiropractor but your health plan
doesn’t include coverage for chiropractic care then the $150.00 won’t
apply toward your insurance plan’s annual deductible. |
